I was going to take the Henry Rollins route and title this post "Shut the fuck up, Ann". However, despite having been married to a men's rights activist for the past 11 years, I'm still maintaining some level of feminist decorum. So…
1st thing I need to ask Ann is, uh, Why? And why on The Situation with Tucker Carlson? That dweeb doesn't deserve the audience for your misplaced virtrol. The Daily Show would have been a much better venue, if only because Jon Stewart's smackdowns while obvious (Bill Bennett, anyone) would have been so much more entertaining than Tucker's ernest honkings.
"These women should just take their money and shut up!"
Uh…ok…this just begs for a nasty comeback, but I'm in too good of a mood to go there today.
I guess Ms. Coulter thought she was going into friendly territory appearing on Tucker's show. But even he was mortified, even days afterward, by some of the statements she made.
Now, I will agree with her on one point. Of course the women were self-absorbed in thinking the "terrorist attacks only happened to them". Obviously, Ms. Coulter has never lost a loved one, nor has she had to deal with the emotional, physical, and finanical aftermath of losing a loved one, especially after a catastrophic event such as 9/11. I'm not a big fan of most East Coast upper class types either ("self-absorbed" and "elitist" doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about some of these peeps normally, but whatevah…), but, IMHO, the human condition dictates that when one suffers tragedy, one does what one can to pick oneself back up. When your life has been shattered, it CAN take a while to get over it. You need to do what you can to heal. Can you BLAME these women for being "self-absorbed"? They're fucking HEALING, for chrissakes!
As for using "grief for political points"…well, if seeing about getting some justice done and seeing closure is getting political points, more power to them!
The rest of the world has hated on her for her "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much." comment. So no need to go there.
I was never a big Coulter fan, but I was always intrigued by her life path: She grew up a hippie, was a devout Libertarian for a while. But I guess that profile wasn't high enough so she sold her political soul to the Republicans and became a right wing lapdog.
But this time, if Tucker's any indication (I don't care if he's said more than a few times he's a Libertarian, himself; he'll always be a spoiled little frat boy from La Jolla, where they all fiercely tow the Repub party line), even the right wing's sending her to the dog house.
There are some folks out there who still love her, 'tho. Take the aforementioned Henry Rollins. He even wrote her a nice little love letter:
