Tea meme

One of my old buddies Trudy Ann sent this little note to all the folks on her email list. I thought it was pretty inspirational, and I thought I’d share it with you all. And, unlike other memes, nothing horrible will happen to you if you don’t share it with others! Although I’m sure it would be nice if you did. :)

Both of these stories came out of her recent trip to India. Hope you enjoy!

We were going on an overnight train from Bombay to visit my cousin. Total strangers, fellow passengers started talking with us and exchanging life stories as is the norm in India. I told them that some of my friends were worried I would not return. This wise man says to me, ” What the Western world does not understand is that once and Indian decides to love, they never let go of the other hand that they love even from far away.” It was and is so true.

Another day, I was in Bombay at a toy store feeling a bit frazzled for various reasons. The owner, a stranger to me, saw my face and said, ” What is wrong?”. I said, “Nothing”. Then he said, ” Ok, then have a cup of tea”, to which I said, “No thank you”. (since that is the correct response.. you first decline). He said, ” But it is home made”…. and the tears streamed down my face as he pulled up a stool and served me tea and talked about life and I felt much better.
That is India for me… the kindness of strangers. After years of making many cups of tea for people, this one was very special.
