As you all can see from my recently installed FriendFeed RSS view on the sidebar of my blog, I’ve been rather ensconced in tracking freedom of speech violations whenever I come across them via Twitter, Digg, et. al.
Others have observed this LONG before I made any statements on it, but to say that the once great nation of the United States of America is quickly sliding down ever-widening circles into the hell of fanatical fascism would be an understatement.
Two examples from the links I have on the side there:
61-year-old woman kicked out of McCain “public” townhall
Man Banned from Flying Flag Upside Down, Gets Death Threat
Just to summarize:
The woman was kicked out of McCain’s town hall meeting that day for carrying a sign “McCain=Bush”. WTF?!?!?!?!!?
The man flying the flag upside down was protesting the Iraq war, not disrespecting the flag in any way, shape or form. In fact, according to many an emergency code, hanging the flag upside signals distress.
Well, we ARE a nation in distress! The economy is in tatters, the price for everything is too high, and our civil rights are being eroded by either uptight, autocratic politicians, misguided, so-called “patriots”, and any number of individuals who wouldn’t know the contents of our Constitution if it hit them with a 2×4.
And then came this “tweet” from Republican Congressman John Culberson. Apparently, he’s gotten too popular on Twitter, so the freaked-out Democrat-controlled congress wants to clamp down on content coming out their chambers, in order to ensure that everything coming out of their sewer provided to the American public is “on message”.
WHOSE MESSAGE?!!?? THEIRS?!?!?!?!?
As regular readers know, I am NO Republican. Yet, I’m an admirer of Sr. Culberson, having read his discussions with Twitter users on the other side of the aisle, encouraging reasoned, respectable debate on all sides. He’s been forthright with his views, and honest with his dealings with others on the floor, as well as with those who disagree with this views.
And now, for, wait for it, political reasons, the Democrats want to shut down any discussion of House actions from anyone within the house.
Excuse me, but as a US taxpayer, I insist, nay DEMAND that all access to my congress be free for me to agree or disagree.
And, as a US taxpayer, I insist, nay DEMAND that any congressman voted BY US into congress be allowed to provide TO US uncensored reports of happenings that matter the most to me, and LET US HAVE A SAY IN IT!.
These Democrats sponsoring this bill forcing all communication to be “vettered” are doing the same thing Bush has been doing the last 8 years - censoring content to fit their needs, rather than the will of the people. They are no different than the Social Democrats who voted Hitler into power 70 years ago.
If you feel the same way, please email Nancy Pelosi and her right hand person, and tell them that censoring ANY congressman is tantamount to encouraging fascism, and goes against the tenements of our Constitution.
Not that she would remember what those are, but I’m sure she and her fellow senators need a good nudging now and then.

If the Ds rule change were in effect today, before I could post this, your website/blog would have to be preapproved as complying with House rules, my post would require a disclaimer that it was “produced by a House office for official purposes,” and the CONTENT of my post would have to preapproved by the House Franking Committee as complying with “existing content rules and regulations.”
This is a violation of your First Amendment rights and mine, and is an outrageous attempt by House leadership to stifle and control you and me. If Rs were in charge I would be just as outraged - forget the party label - I do not want the federal gov’t/House of Representatives certifying your website or the content of my posts. I am writing this post personally, in my official capacity, so it would fall precisely under their new rule and you and I would both be in violation unless we subjected ourselves and my words to their prior approval/editing.

Thank you for replying, Sr. Culberson.
I think I would have either been even more outraged if your party had done this while heading Congress, or just shake my head while shaking my fist and say, par for the course.
But you are right. It doesn’t matter which party is in charge. It’s not something we, as Americans, should tolerate. Ever. I’m standing behind you on this 100%.
